Available Vessels

Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot’ (Acts 8:29, KJV).

There are critical times when God wants us to reach out to someone or some people with His word. An example was when Philip had to join the Ethiopian eunuch according to Acts 8:26-39. This led to the salvation of the eunuch who took the gospel to the continent of Africa.

One evening, I was returning home on a motorcycle, popularly known as Okada. The Holy Spirit impressed upon my heart to share God’s word with the motorcyclist. Initially I was reluctant but I later yielded to Him. I waited till the man got me home and then spoke to him that the Spirit of God told me to share some things with him. I was as brief as possible so as not to disturb his business. In about five minutes or so, I was through. Then he asked me: “Does that mean that the Holy Spirit still knows that I exist?” Even though I didn’t know why he asked this question, I said ‘Yes!’

After a brief moment of silence, he narrated some recent events of his life to me. He told me how he used to be ‘on fire’ for God and how a strange storm arose in his life that left him battered and devastated. According to him, everything in his life turned upside down and he was deserted by everyone. He also prayed and prayed but no answer seemed coming; hence, he concluded that God had failed him. He continued to drown spiritually and earlier that day, he planned that he was going to visit a bar at the close of the day and drink himself to stupor. This was to show God that He (God) was a complete disappointment and that henceforth he would have nothing to do with Him.

The man then told me that with all that the Holy Spirit told me to tell him; he was convinced that the Lord had not actually forgotten him but still cares about him; and at such, his visit to any bar was cancelled. He told me he was ready to come back to God. So, I held his hands and we prayed together. He was so full of gratitude that as he was leaving, I knew he was now a new person. I felt very happy for him. Friend, it’s important to yield ourselves as God’s mouthpiece so that the unreached can be reached. I pray, may God’s light continue to shine into sin-darkened hearts. In Jesus mighty name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: Dear Holy Spirit, help me to be sensitive to your leadings at moments of critical needs. Help me to always be an available vessel in Your hands. In Jesus name!
