The fear of men
..many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved praise from men more than praise from God (John 12:42, 43, NIV).
Some people will do everything and even compromise their beliefs just to be accepted by others. They want others to acknowledge their presence, admire their dressing, appreciate their audacity and acknowledge their knowledge. They want to get ‘likes’ and ‘thumbs up’.
But what follows when these do not happen? They feel bad, disappointed or unappreciated. Yet they don’t stop. They spend more time thinking of better ways of winning people’s approval. They seem not to realize that the world will always love its own and hate those who will not go with its flow. Do you remember that the Bible says that the love of this world is enmity with God?
Dear friend, do we really need to care so much about what others think about us? What others think about you does not define you. Only what God says defines you. That some people do not appreciate you does not reduce your worth. It is when you want to do anything to get people’s approval that you put yourself in unnecessary bondage.
Why would your joy depend on someone else’s approval? Why can’t you simply follow your Godly convictions? The truth is everyone usually follows a successful person. But if the person stumbles, everyone turns their back at him. What you need is God and some people (usually very few) who believe in you and stay with you in good and bad times. Dear friend, it is time you delivered yourself from disobeying God to please mere men. May God help you. In Jesus mighty name!
