‘…He sent the multitudes away. Afterward he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.” (Mathew 14:22, 23; NKJV, NLT).

Jesus would often send the multitudes away so that He could be alone to pray. This He did to overcome unnecessary distractions. People are easily distracted till date and the devil is the expert agent behind it. Anytime one is close to his breakthrough, the devil sends a distraction to make sure that the breakthrough is disrupted or delayed. When there are so many distractions, it becomes difficult to walk in the spirit and fulfill one’s purpose on the earth. Distraction is the enemy of our spiritual consistency.

At this time of the year, vigilance must be our watchword. It’s a period when many people lose their spiritual grace and focus due to seemingly harmless but dangerous distractions. While they ought to withdraw from their ever-increasing engagements to seek the face of God and receive visions and directions for the coming year, many folks are rather more concerned about food, drinks and celebrations.

While celebration or being happy is not a bad thing in itself, it shouldn’t be at the cost of missing divine instructions and jeopardizing our spiritual connection with Him.

This is a period when people will spend more time with families and friends. The social media platforms like Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram will also experience heavier traffic than usual. But amidst this hustling and bustling, we must make out time to be alone with God. We must be wary of subtle distractions orchestrated to confuse or mislead us, or the ones meant to destroy God’s purpose for us in the coming year.

When we make out time to be with God, He gives us instructions, directions and assignments for the coming year which we might not get through any other means. You will be helping yourself a great deal if you can shut out distractions, wait upon the Lord in fasting and prayers and get connected to God. This informs what to focus your time and energy on, and what you don’t need to involve yourself with.

Don’t let anything or anyone, no matter how dear, be your distraction as we look forward to the coming year. If you don’t have strong focus for the year, the devil already has enough distractions awaiting you. I pray; may the coming year bring uncommon grace into our lives. in Jesus name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: Every subtle distraction of the devil to hinder my spiritual progress, be destroyed. In the name of Jesus!
