God’s righteousness

God’s righteousness

For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God (Roman 10:3, KJV).

God’s righteousness is the qualification for new birth. Without it, no man can get saved. But God’s righteousness is misunderstood by many. The Bible says, ‘…for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God’. So man was born unrighteous. No amount of good works makes a man righteous. Being nice, friendly, kind or helpful to others does not make a man righteous. A man and his works can only be accepted by God as righteous after he is saved through the blood of Jesus.

The very first step into righteousness is to believe in Jesus with all your heart as your Lord and Saviour. By doing that you accept He is able to save you from peril and give you eternal life (Jn. 3:16). The second step is to confess your belief with your mouth. The moment you believe is the same moment that God makes you righteous and accepts you totally. You instantly have a right standing with God. That’s why the Bible says ‘For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation’ (Rom. 10:10, NKJV).

Now that you are saved, you are God’s righteousness (II Cor. 5:21). But righteousness does not mean that you can’t fall into sin. If a saved person does not train his spirit man through the Word and prayers, he’ll find himself exhibiting anger, bitterness, fear, worry, pride, lust, rudeness, and so on. Because we are still in the flesh, we will always be in situations where we have to choose between submitting to the spirit or to the flesh. But then, God’s righteousness within kills the appetite for willful sinning (Rom. 6:1,2).

We must stay in righteousness by doing two things: walk in the light of God’s word and sincerely confess your sin when you realize that you have missed it (I Jn. 1:7,9). It’s our continuous willingness to grow in our understanding of God’s word; please Him and know Him more and more that will help to maintain our righteousness till the end. I pray, may God strengthen us to be righteousness-conscious. In Jesus mighty name!

Today’s corporate prayer: I walk in the consciousness of divinely empowered righteousness. In the mighty name of Jesus!
