Killing Words (Part 2)
‘…they will slander others and have no self control…’ (II Timothy 3:3, NLT).
The Bible lists slander as one of the signs of the perilous times and last days. Just like any other vice, it is a highly condemnable deed and a sin to God. That means it attracts its punishment!
In Bishop Henshaw’s words, “we should no less hate to tell, than to hear slander; if we cannot stop others’ mouths, let us stop our own ears; the receiver is as bad as the thief.” In the thoughts of Criss Jami, “The only thing that is more frustrating than slanderers is those foolish enough to listen to them.”
Some slanderers accused Jesus of using the power of the devil to do the work of God He was doing. Where did they get that idea from? It was the devil that suggested that thought to them and they believed it. The devil wants to be seen as God and wants God to be seen as the devil.
Slanderers are very useful tools in the hands of the devil to achieve his aims. The devil feeds them with all sorts of unfounded suggestions and thoughts about others. And being ignorant of the devil’s wiles, they remain his captives and help him to do his dirty job. Anyone who understands this will not be caught in a slander nor welcome any.
If slanderers don’t have anyone to listen to them, they may stop slandering others. You may even help to deliver slanderers from the unkind act by refusing to listen to them or by employing any possible means to discourage them from doing the devil’s business. I pray; may you not be one of the devil’s employees. In Jesus name!
