Passing God’s Test
By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice…(Hebrews 11:17, NIV).
Some Christians don’t believe that God tests His children. But the above verse says He does. While God does not tempt His children He does test them (See James 1:13). Many folks wonder why God would test us. There are two major reasons. One reason is, when God allows you to be in a test, it gives Him the opportunity to prove Himself faithful to you.
Let’s look at Abraham’s story from the Old Testament: ‘After these events, God tested and proved Abraham and said to him, Abraham! And he said, Here I am. [God] said, Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah; and offer him there as a burnt offering…’ (Genesis 22:1,2, AMP).
As we can see from this account, tests also present to us an opportunity to prove our loyalty to God. Like we know, the higher a student goes in school, the harder his examination gets. In the same way, the higher we go with God, the tougher the test gets. And God’s tests test a major thing: What’s more important to you; God or ‘your Isaac’?
Your Isaac may be your job, spouse, children, money, status, ego, education, skills, and so on. Does your trust and confidence lie in God alone or in your Isaac? Is anything getting between you and God? Let go of it and let God have His way. It’s for your own good. I pray, may we not fail God’s test, no matter how difficult it seems. In Jesus mighty name!
Today’s corporate prayer: My Father, help me to let go of ‘my Isaac’ so that I can regain the same in a better way. In the mighty name of Jesus!
