Sexual Purity

Sexual PuritySexual Purity

I was nominated to share my view on sexual purity and I’m grateful for the privilege.

What is Sexual Purity?

Sexual purity simply means abstaining from every form of sexual activity before marriage.

How can this be done?

It’s good to note that we all have libido, in fact, if you don’t feel sexual urges occasionally then you need help! It’s also good to note that although, it’s normal to have libido, it isn’t normal for the libido to have you!

It’s very possible to remain sexually pure regardless of the popular opinion. In a world where sexual promiscuity is common, there are still few that are (and can be) uncommon. And I’ve chosen to be uncommon!

What are some of the steps that can help you stay sexually pure?

1.   Abstain from all appearances of evil. Note the keyword “abstain.” Don’t watch pornography; don’t t read romantic books and novels, they can easily turn on your sexual urge.

2.  Set boundaries for yourself. In other words, you should know how to relate with the opposite sex by setting limit. Avoid going to visit persons of the opposite sex alone.

3.  Seek God’s help in the place of prayer daily so as to be able to control your libido everyday. It’s an error to think that you’re strong and won’t prey to sexual temptations. Even Samson fell despite his physical strength and vigour.

4.  Choose the right kind of friends: Make friends that believe in chastity, sexual purity and above all holiness. Don’t make the mistake Ammon (King David’s son who was deceived into seeping with his half sister Tamar) made!

Don’t say she is my girlfriend or he is my boy friend but we don’t indulge in such things. Let me put this question across to you, can you put your hand into the fire and not get burnt?

5.  Be modestly dressed at all times, so don’t end up being the “appearance of evil” yourself. Don’t be the girl that a godly brother will see and he would need to cover his eyes with the blood of Jesus because of your indecent dressing. The men are not left out, mind the way you dress too as well.

Live a Purpose Driven Life

If you’re still pure, remain pure. If you’ve made a mistake or you were a victim, don’t remain in your mess; get up and begin now to uphold sexual chastity. Remember Esther and Mary were privileged because they were sexually pure!

The next time the libido comes, tell it you’ve got books to read; you’ve got a destiny you don’t want to truncate and mostly importantly, you’ve got God to serve. Tell it you won’t die if you don’t satisfy it now!

Ultimately, strive to remain pure from all other sins also. Remember that both the one that committed fornication and the one that told a lie are both going to same place (hell). As you strive to keep your body, keep your heart as well. Don’t ever forget that at the end of life here on earth, you will give account to God of how you lived the life He gave you.
