Jesus in disguise

Jesus in disguise

‘And the King will tell them, ‘I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ (Matt. 25:40, NLT).

The Bible makes us to understand that each of us will give an account of himself to God at the end of time (Rom. 14:12). Interestingly, the twenty fifth chapter of the book of Matthew reveals some details about this critical time. There Jesus said all the nations will be gathered in His presence, and He will separate the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep at His right hand and the goats at His left.

Jesus said to the sheep, ‘Come you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.’ What were the qualities of these ‘sheep’ people? They fed those who were hungry, gave a drink to those who were thirsty, were hospitable and welcomed strangers. They clothed the naked ones, cared for the sick and visited those that were imprisoned. Actually, they didn’t do these to Jesus in person. But when they did these to the overlooked or ignored ones, Jesus said they did it to Him.

The ‘goats’ will be given no welcome. The king will say to them, ‘Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his demons!’ The reason why they will receive such a verdict was also given. They never cared for the hungry or thirsty ones. They didn’t clothe those who were naked around them nor visit those who were sick and in prison (See Matt. 25:31-46). It is terrible indeed to end up in eternal fire.

After giving your life to Christ, that’s not the end. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath ordained that we should walk in them,” says the Bible (Eph. 2:10). In your own way, do you care for the hungry people? In your little capacity, do you help someone who you don’t know and from whom you are not expecting any returns? Do you respond to the needs of the sick or those who are imprisoned – spiritually, financially, emotionally or even physically?

When you appear before the King of kings at the end of life, do you want to be considered a sheep or a goat? Have you become a subject of His Kingdom by accepting Him as your Lord and Saviour? Will you care for the unprivileged ones? Will you be a bridge or a wall when it comes to the flow of God’s blessings? Jesus may never come to you in person, but each time you see a less-privileged fellow, ensure to see Jesus in him. May God help us. In Jesus name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: Father, deliver me from any lie I tell myself. In Christ Jesus mighty name!

Submission to God

Submission to God

‘Submit yourselves therefore to God…’ (Jas. 4:7 KJV).

When it comes to our spiritual relationship with Him, God wants our submission. We know that teachers naturally like submissive and obedient learners. Husbands love submissive wives. Parents hold submissive children very dearly. Pastors adore their submissive members. Submissive followers make leader’s job easy. So, as it were; when we don’t submit to God; we make things difficult for Him and give the devil a hold in our lives.

As we continue in fellowship with God, He draws our attention to areas of our lives that need to be ‘crucified’. We will do well to bring such areas to submission through the help of the Holy Spirit and our willingness to change. Sometimes, God wants us to be submitted to him financially. At other times, He wants to get rid of certain habits in us. he wants us to submit our time to Him by spending it on certain assignments He has for us.

In what areas do you need to submit to God? Is your appetite submitted to Him? What about your temper? Is your sexual life submitted to Him? Do you genuinely care about others? Do you only care about yourself and things that concern you? Do you obey God on how to spend ‘your’ money? Have you submitted your thoughts and cares to God?

To demonstrate His submission to God, Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross (Phil. 2:8). Because of his submission to God, Joseph would not accept the sinful offer of Potiphar’s wife. Abraham too was submissive and obeyed God’s instructions concerning Isaac his son. These people were all rewarded extraordinarily. Submission is not easy, but it is commanded. May God help us to submit to Him always. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: O Lord, help me to bend every hardened area of my life to you. In the mighty name of Jesus!
