When tempted

When tempted

‘For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted’ (Heb. 2:18, NKJV).

Temptations are inescapable in life. Even our Lord Jesus, when physically here on the earth, was tempted by the devil. Temptations come by what we see, hear, think or interact with. There is hardly any day that we are not tempted in one way or the other. But we can ask God for strength and wisdom to handle every temptation. According to God’s word; we can ask God for wisdom and expect Him to give us (Jas. 1:5).

Since we were wired differently, the same thing doesn’t tempt us as individuals. What tempts one might not necessarily tempt another. While Satan tempts A with anger, B’s temptation could be greed. Fault-finding might be C’s temptation while D is tempted with lust. E might be tempted to steal from her spouse while alcohol may be F’s temptation. The devil usually tempts each man with what he sees as his weakness. But being tempted becomes a sin only when one yields himself to the tempter’s push.

Some people put themselves in tempting situations, and then blame God for the consequences of their choices. For example, if you don’t want to fall into a sexual sin, you have no business being alone with an opposite sex in a secluded place. If you don’t want to continue in alcoholism or drugs, you should stop being close friends with addicts. In the same vein, breaking free from pornography requires that you stop seeing pictures or videos that arouse ungodly feelings in you. If you get angry easily, learn to say nothing until your anger has subsided.

Is your patience being tested? Have you been stretched to your elastic limit? Have you been taken for granted? You need to hook up with Jesus. He Himself suffered and was tempted. He understands how difficult temptations can be and so, is able to help those who are tempted. He helps us by the Word. When the devil came to Him, the Word was His weapon of victory. So feed your soul with God’s Word, watch and pray. I pray, may you not fall again. In Jesus name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: I command the grip of temptation and sin upon my life to wither. In the mighty name of Jesus!
