Submission to God
‘Submit yourselves therefore to God…’ (Jas. 4:7 KJV).
When it comes to our spiritual relationship with Him, God wants our submission. We know that teachers naturally like submissive and obedient learners. Husbands love submissive wives. Parents hold submissive children very dearly. Pastors adore their submissive members. Submissive followers make leader’s job easy. So, as it were; when we don’t submit to God; we make things difficult for Him and give the devil a hold in our lives.
As we continue in fellowship with God, He draws our attention to areas of our lives that need to be ‘crucified’. We will do well to bring such areas to submission through the help of the Holy Spirit and our willingness to change. Sometimes, God wants us to be submitted to him financially. At other times, He wants to get rid of certain habits in us. he wants us to submit our time to Him by spending it on certain assignments He has for us.
In what areas do you need to submit to God? Is your appetite submitted to Him? What about your temper? Is your sexual life submitted to Him? Do you genuinely care about others? Do you only care about yourself and things that concern you? Do you obey God on how to spend ‘your’ money? Have you submitted your thoughts and cares to God?
To demonstrate His submission to God, Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross (Phil. 2:8). Because of his submission to God, Joseph would not accept the sinful offer of Potiphar’s wife. Abraham too was submissive and obeyed God’s instructions concerning Isaac his son. These people were all rewarded extraordinarily. Submission is not easy, but it is commanded. May God help us to submit to Him always. In Jesus name!
