The Father or the World?

The Father or the World?

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him (I John 2:15, KJV).

Today’s opening text tells us: ‘Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him’. Why is the Father against loving the world? The next verse tells us why. ‘For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.’

The lust of the flesh means living just to satisfy the desires of the flesh or uncontrolled love for pleasure. Pleasure, to some people, could mean eating. Such people know the best eateries and restaurants in town. To others it is to be partying and gulping bottles of alcoholic drinks. Another group only derives pleasure in entertainment. Their greatest delight is to sit before the screen, watching movies.

Sex is it for another group. It becomes particularly sinful when it is done outside the scope of legal marriage. Many unmarried people do not see premarital sex as destructive. Some married ones also engage in illicit sex. Sad enough, amongst teenagers and youths, who should be thinking of how to become someone in life, sex has become a ‘norm’!

When it comes to examples of lust of the flesh, the list is actually not exhaustive. But the bottom line of it is that you should watch whatever is mastering you. Any ungodly practice you seem to have little or no control over might be the worldliness you have to overcome. And you have to separate yourself from it before it does a damage to your destiny or separates you from God eternally. I pray, may we not be trapped by the bait of the devil. In Jesus mighty name!

Today’s corporate prayer: I refuse to be a slave to the dictates of my flesh. In the mighty name of Jesus!
