Two foundations

Two foundations

‘…and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock’ (Matt. 7:25, NKJV).

There are two groups of people who hear God’s word – those who obey and those who don’t. Jesus told a story of two builders to stress the importance of doing what God’s word says to do. The first man erected his building on the rock while the second one built his upon the sand. While the first man was busy digging deep to ensure a solid foundation, the second one was probably at the window level of building already. He believed in shortcuts, and to him, that’s the definition of smartness.

But not long after, a rainy day came. The floods came and the winds blew upon their houses. The wise man’s house withstood the test but the ‘smart’ man’s house collapsed badly. Dear friend, without building our lives on the Word of God, we won’t be able to stand when the floods and winds of life come. Challenges don’t discriminate when they operate. They don’t excuse anyone just because his foundation is not strong.

Everyone must be ready for the storm because they will shake you, shock you, unsettle you and agitate you. But you will stand in the end if you build your life on obeying God’s word. The opposite is the case for those building their lives on a faulty foundation of disobedience to God’s word. When the going gets tough, such lives will be shattered to pieces. They may stand for some time but when situations get more adverse, everything they have built on lies will fall like a pack of cards.

The Bible says in Psalm 11:3, “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Well, he can demolish his feeble structure and start all over again. It might take time and efforts but it’s not impossible to still build an exceptional structure. However, living on or trying to manage a faulty foundation is unwise and dangerous. Your old self must be pulled down for a new one. It is not easy but Christ gives the grace to do it. Receive that grace. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: Lord, help me to choose wisdom by obeying your word always. In the name of Jesus!
