Vengeance is God’s
I will take vengeance; I will repay those who deserve it.. (Deutronomy 32:35, NLT).
Recently, I read in the news about a young man who caught his newly-wedded wife in an extra-marital affair with his landlord. To make matters worse, the landlord came to their apartment to carry out the immoral act. Out of anger, this young man struck the landlord and he died. His wife too was left in a very critical state. So the police came and the man charged to court…
Sometimes, we get into some situations where the only thing we believe can satisfy us is vengeance. The scenarios usually look like, ‘He insulted me and I will give it back to him’, ‘He acted rudely to me and I will show him the stuff I am made of’, ‘He jilted me and I will do everything within my power to deal with him’, ‘He abused me sexually when I was a teenager and I must revenge’, and so on.
But vengeance is God’s, not man’s role. Your own duty is just to commit the situation into the hands of God, and leave him to fix the offender. Forgiving the offender doesn’t undermine God’s justice. It only allows God to handle the situation His own way. We may over-react or overlook some offences, but God uses the correct scale of judgment. And don’t forget He will still have mercy on whom He will have mercy (Romans 9:18).
Dear reader, do not pay back evil with evil. Trust God to handle the situation. If you have any duty at all in this issue, it is to forgive and let go. May you receive the grace to let God fight your fight. In Jesus name!
