When you are down

When you are down

‘…They go down…to the depths; Their soul melts because of trouble’ (Psa. 107:26, NKJV).

When all your focus is on yourself, your troubles, your problems and your plight, it’s an invitation to discouragement. When your favourite object is the mirror you might always be in low spirits. But when you shift attention from yourself, your troubles, your limitations, your impossibilities; you see and hear God more clearly. This presents to you boundless possibilities.

Depression does not discriminate. It knocks at everyone’s door. The only difference lies in how much welcome it receives. From time to time we have seen great men fall into depression. Not even a highly anointed man like Elijah escaped its hard grip. After a threat on his life Elijah ran to Beersheba for safety. From there he went on alone into the desert travelling all day. Then he told God: “I have had enough; take my life now!”

An angel of the Lord brought him food twice. Drawing from the strength he received from it, he travelled forty days and nights to Mount Sinai. If God did not abandon Elijah when he was overwhelmed, definitely, He won’t forsake you either. You might be passing through difficult times right now, but God’s intervention will set you free from disappointment, oppression, marital distress, workplace affliction, and so on.

When you are down in your spirit the loudest voice you hear is the devil’s. And if God doesn’t get your mind at that time, you might end up taking the best action you will regret ever taking. That’s why you have to be wary of what you say or do at such moments. If only you can calm your spirit down and seek God’s face wholeheartedly, you’ll discover that things are not really as bad as you thought. Allow God to get your attention and you will see the cloud of depression lift away from you.

A righteous man may fall seven times. But he rises each time he does (Prov. 24:16, NIV). You don’t have to remain down just because you fell into a mistake. Blame games, regrets or despondency will not help matters. Drawing strength and grace from God through prayers is the only way forward. I pray, receive the grace to be back on your feet. In Jesus name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: Father, deliver me from the grip of satanic discouragement and attack. In Christ Jesus mighty name!
