When will you get married: The question I was constantly asked

When will you get married: The question I was constantly asked

Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge him and He will make your path straight. “

One giant I never got to write about was the fear of not marrying or marrying at 50 when I’m already old (lol). In Africa when a lady stays up to 30 years without a spouse, you become everyone’s prayer point. You don’t need to share your struggles or frustration with them they just know the appropriate prayer for you. “God bless her with a husband in Jesus name” won’t escape their mouth. It is worse for a lady who is well educated and highly religious. And unfortunately for me, I fall in this category.

So when I announced that I was going to train for two years as a missionary, it looked like I was taking a vow of celibacy. Everyone was concerned. At a point, a friend even told me this and I quote “Blessing, you know you are an advanced single lady, you have no chance as a missionary. If I were you, I will ask God to give me a husband first before I agree to go for this training”. I considered all options and had to take a step of faith with courage like Joshua when God called him to lead the Israelites to the promised land.

Notwithstanding, I surrendered my fears to God, trusted him with my life and went.

I have this question for someone! Are you a single lady? Are you in a dilemma of holding back on your commitment to God for the fear that God will delay you maritally? Are you afraid of taking a bold step towards embarking on any project thinking that there’s no hope for you?

God’s word says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your path straight.” This is all the go-ahead you need!

  • Brilliant write up. This is really encouraging. I have to trust God with my life because He created and knows what is best for me.
