Enemies

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He will bruise your head, And you shall bruise his heel’ (Genesis 3:15, NKJV).

It is interesting that the first reference to enmity in the Bible is a pronouncement by God Himself. As it were, He himself created enmity. After He had issued a curse on the devil, God now put enmity between him and mankind. That is the reason why the world can never be a peaceful place. The enmity between Satan and mankind is an eternal one. You cannot make peace with the devil. No one can.

After the earth was cursed, enmity was initiated into nature. In the animal world, the predator is an enemy of the prey. For example, the lion is an enemy of the buffalo. No prey jokes around its predator. The zebra knows that the lion is its enemy, so it’s always conscious of the lion’s presence so as to ensure safety. Even baby animals by instinct know their enemies and would always adhere to all safety measures. Is it possible to create friendship between an untamed lion and its prey? Can you tell a deer to love the hungry tiger that wants to devour her? Circumstances have made them each other’s enemy.

Some people are trying to make an impossible peace with the enemy. They think they can stop something that was created by God. Jesus said He gives us power to tread upon serpents and scorpions. We know that he meant the enemies. Have you ever seen a nice serpent or a kind scorpion? They have only one destructive nature; to bite, sting and kill. Jesus did not say to be gentle with them. He said to tread upon them. He knew we have to destroy them if we don’t want to be destroyed by them!

Even God Himself has enemies who He doesn’t toy with. The Bible says, “Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered…” (Psalms 68:1). As God’s children, we must stop being gentle with the enemies. Like our father, we need to arise after the order of the Lion of Judah, so that they can all be scattered and leave us alone to enjoy God’s best for us. I pray, you shall prevail over your enemies. In Jesus name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: I refuse to be made the scapegoat of my parents’ sins. In the name of Jesus!
