My constant aim is higher ground

My constant aim is higher ground

Philippians 3:14 “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ jesus.”

A Christian who has experienced God’s grace wrought in him, will hunger for more. The more holy a man becomes, and the more closer he draws to the infinite holy God, the more he mourns over the unholiness and imperfections that remains in him.

For as the creation groaneth and travaileth in pain, even so we ourselves which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. This tabernacle we are in now, is prone to sin, and its desires contrary to the Spirit. And we earnestly desiring to be clothed upon our houses which is from heaven.

Moreso, we long after more holiness even hitherto. Leaving the principles of the doctrines of Christ, let us go unto perfection. We do not desire to remain in this state, but to attain that for which we are apprehended of by Christ Jesus.

A song writer wrote, “I’m pressing on the upward way.” Why do you think he wrote that? He was desirous of that Christian perfection, where love, joy, peace, and the light of holiness abounds within him. He prays for the entire sanctification of the whole man. When the believer’s heart will be filled with Christ-like love, having the joy of the LORD always as his strength, swimming in the river of holiness, and walking in the light of God’s grace and glory.

Reader, are you satisfied with the level of holiness attained? Press on! LORD, more holiness give me. You can take everything from me, but give me more holiness, until my very life and nature, both inward, outward, and all the strength of my soul, and the powers of my mind are inflamed with the light of thy holiness, springing forth unto everlasting life.

Hannah prayed, she received. Jabez prayed, he received. Jacob prayed, he prevailed. O LORD, help us to groan in prayer, and thou Spirit of God that helpeth our infirmities, give us strength to prevail in our cry to attain complete holiness of heart and life (entire sanctification).
