Rest (2)

“For only we who believe can enter his place of rest…” (Hebrews 4:3; NLT).

God worked for six days and rested on the seventh day. God is a Spirit who doesn’t have a physical body which gets tired. Yet He rested so that we can learn from Him the importance of rest. In fact man was made after God had put the world in order. God created the sky, water bodies, dry land, herbs and animals. When He saw that everything man needed was ready, God now created man.

Man could have continued in this kind of restful life. But he disobeyed God and his life of ease turned to a life full of hardship and difficulties. Later, God made a way of restoring man into a state of rest. God told the Israelites: “For six years you may plant your fields and prune your vineyards and harvest your crops, but during the seventh year the land will enjoy a Sabbath year of rest to the LORD. Do not plant your crops or prune your vineyards during that entire year (Leviticus 25:3,4 NLT).

To ensure that they wouldn’t need to work at all, God said further to them: “I will send such a blessing into the sixth year that the land will yield enough for three years” (Leviticus 25:21, NIV). God so much desired that His children had rest to the point that He gave them enough produce that would last them for three whole years only in one year! If that could happen in the Old Testament time, we can expect better things in the New Testament. That’s why our opening text says “we who believe enter His place of rest.”

If God made man after He finished the work of creation, it meant that He wanted man to live in His rest. If Jesus invites everyone who is weary and carry heavy burdens to Himself so that He can give them rest, that means He wants everyone to experience His rest. No matter what you are passing through right now, God wants you to have rest. Refuse to struggle, suffer or carry unnecessary burden. Live in rest day by day through living by God’s word. I pray, receive the baptism of His rest. In Jesus name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: O Lord, arise and show Yourself mighty on behalf of Your children worldwide. In Jesus mighty name!
