Rest

RestRest

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28; NLT).

I can tell that something bothers an average man. With a lot of responsibilities to shoulder, excessive expectation from dependants and lots of challenges to overcome, lots of people are carrying heavy emotional burdens. They have become so exhausted and worn-out that unless a miracle happens fast, they will soon crash under the weight of their burdens. You may have no idea the kind of load some people are carrying until they tell you.

Some people’s weights come in the form of busyness. In a bid to meet up with all manners of responsibilities and expectations, they hardly have time to rest. Taking a day off is a ‘no way’. They tell themselves that good things don’t come easily. They endanger their lives by overworking themselves. To relax over a meal is extremely difficult for them. In fact sleeping soundly is becoming an impossible task. But they are not only risking their lives, they are also putting their family into danger. The Bible says, ‘Unless the LORD builds the house, they labour in vain who build it.’

Jesus knows all about our struggles and circumstances. So, He invites the weary ones: “Come unto me and I will give you rest.” Everyone needs rest, especially Jesus’ kind of rest. This is the kind of rest that made Him sleep even amidst a raging storm (Mark 4:36-41). The same kind of rest gave Paul and Silas the grace to be praying and singing after being harassed, beaten and imprisoned (Acts 16:16-26). This same rest caused Peter to be sleeping when he was to be killed the following morning (Acts 12:3-9). The great thing about the rest of Jesus is that it solves the problems it faces.

When Jesus arose from His sleep, He addressed the raging storm and there was a great calm. When Paul and Silas continued praying and singing, there was an earthquake. The prison doors opened and their chains fell off. They were eventually released. Peter too was awakened by an angel as he slept. Despite the security personnel around, the prison doors opened to Peter without their knowledge. Dear friend, coming into the rest of Jesus is the answer to some of the naughty situations around us. I pray, receive the power to come into His rest. In Jesus name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: O Lord, restore hope to seemingly hopeless situations. Let dry bones rise again. In Jesus mighty name!
