Ungodliness

Titus 2:11-12, “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age. “

The Meaning of Ungodliness

Ungodliness or to be ungodly simply means to live in a way that contradicts God’s nature. In other words, to consciously live in disobedience to the dictates of God. As a matter of fact, ungodliness is to be irreverent towards God, to totally disregard what He thinks about how you live. Often, the Bible talks about the flesh as those things that emanate from our sinful natures. The works of the flesh and the wordly passions all fall under the category of ungodliness.

Who Are The Ungodly ?

There are two categories of people who fall into what is classified as Ungodly. These are:

  1. Those Who Have No Relationship With Jesus: These are persons who basically have no knowledge of Christ. That is, those who are yet to get saved from their sins. They’ve simply not surrendered their lives to Jesus and still blatantly live in sin.
  2. Those who have accepted Jesus but still compromise their faith when they think godliness is not convenient to practice.

Without a doubt, being a believer and practicing Ungodliness or living an ungodly life is an unholy thing to do. Both to God and to oneself. Many times, I hear some believers say, “common, it doesn’t matter, God will understand.” The truth is, He doesn’t. Our salvation was delivered to us at a very costly price. Consequently, a believer who still plays with sin is threading on very dangerous ground.

Romans 1:18 says, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.”

As a result, our walk with God should be progressive. Meaning that, after getting saved from our sins. The next phase is spiritual growth and maturity. Sadly, there are many who refer to themselves as born-again believers but still hang on to their old sinful life. God’s warning is clear on this.

2 Peter 3:7 says, “that the ungodly will face judgment.

The above scripture points to the fact that, everyone who calls on the name of the Lord must depart from ungodliness. For the purpose of clarity, those of us referred to as believers, should not be found living in sin. Jesus didn’t save us so we can remain and live just as we did before we supposedly gave our lives to Him.

Psalm 1:1 says, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. ”

It would be important to state that, when we repent, confess and accept Jesus and His Word in our hearts and set our minds towards living godly lives then we can say we are genuinely saved. This is called Salvation! Otherwise, we’re not saved.

What God Says About the Ungodly

1 Peter 4:7, “The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.”

Revelations 20:14–15 says, “Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”

Ultimately, those who reject God—the ungodly—will be separated from Him forever.

All things considered, to weigh yourself critically will be a wise thing to do. I urge you to take a decisive stand now for Jesus. The worst thing that would ever happen to anyone is to have death or rapture meet you when you still don’t have Jesus in your life. This, is the most expensive mistake anyone would ever make in life. Therefore, take a stand for Jesus while you still can.

  1. I could not agree less with you on your view on Pressumptious Sin! It can also be viewed as Grace abused or Mercy abused. May God help us all!
