Seeing others correctly

Seeing others correctly

Show respect for everyone… (I Peter 2:17, NIV).

Respect is an attitude of high regard for someone. It means to treat others well and with courtesy. Today’s text says ‘show respect to everyone’. Whether young or old, there’s need to respect others. Don’t forget, everyone means everyone. We cannot over-emphasize the fact that respect is not optional in life.

Respect is seen in the way you see others. It is seen in how you treat those who can do nothing to you. It is seen not only in the way you treat your superiors but also those who are under you. It is seen in the way you treat those who are not as privileged or financially blessed as you are. It is seen in the way you see those who are not as gifted as you are.

There are those who have made it a way of life to respect others. They always receive respect for it. There are also who don’t respect others. They treat others and talk about others anyhow. Of course they lose their respect for it. There is no man or woman who is valueless. Anyone made in the image of God carries in him something that should be respected. Actually it becomes easier to respect others when you discover how valuable you are to God.

Today, simple mannerisms are giving way to disrespectful attitudes. Disrespect is now beginning to have nice names in many of our settings. From young age, parents allow their kids to go away with many unwholesome behaviours because respect is now seen as cowardice while disrespect is taken as boldness. Dear all, obeying God’s word that everyone should be respected is key if we want to experience peace in our marriages, workplaces, churches or society. May the Lord help us. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: I receive the grace to see others as Your creation, no matter how disadvantaged they are. In Jesus mighty name!
