Take me back to calvary

Take me back to calvary

Revelations 2:5 “Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”

The scripture predicted that in the last days many shall become cold. “Because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” And just as our Lord spoke to this church at Ephesus that he had somewhat against them, he’s also speaking to all the churches in all ages. You’ve been converted for so long, after conversion, your fervour was so high for the things of God. You so much loved God that whenever any activity or church program was to be held, you were happy and even without being told, you would publicize it.

Evangelism was a solemn task and a voluntary responsibility to you. Praying was your habit, and constant Bible reading, studying, and meditating, you never took for granted. Holiness was your main aim, and righteousness was your disposition. Christian comportment, and modest dressing, coupled together with godly contentment you despised not.

All you could say then was nothing but “Earnestly contending for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” You were so determined to share in the fellowship of Christ sufferings and his death. All you had then was for the glory of God, and even as much as lieth in you, was to please the LORD. Your light was burning, your lamp was shining so bright that the lustre made men give glory to God.

But now, where art thou? You’ve lost almost all your Christian experience. Holiness and righteousness is like a vinegar before you. Evangelism has been long forgotten. Service to the LORD and Christian consecration and commitment is neglected. Decency in dressing, character and Christian comportment is now estranged from you. Godly contentment no longer gives you satisfaction.

The things of this world are becoming your life’s consuming fire. Your hatred has now been more stirred up against the preachers of holiness who are showing you the right way of the heavenly calling, and pointing you to the cross. Worldliness, pride, hypocrisy, anger, animosity, talebearing, foolish and defamatory talking, are now your attributes.

Christ is saying to thee, O man, “I have somewhat against thee.” You have left the place where you started. Instead of growing in grace, you are now drinking sin again. Habitual and besetting sins now charm you. More so, you see holiness as being too religious and churchy. Repent, says the LORD, else that thing which I have appointed you to do, I will take it away from you, and give it to another who is willing and ready to use it for God’s glory. Therefore, weep and cry like Hannah, and answer will come to you like Jabez, with full restoration like Peter.

REMEMBER THY FIRST LOVE! and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die saith the Lord.
