The Superman Tendency

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us… (Romans 12:6, NIV).

If you expect everyone to be pleased with you, you are being unrealistic. The truth is that we always have different folks expecting different things from us. Your job, spouse, parents, siblings, colleagues, boss, friends, church and neighbours require some ‘obligations’ from you which include money, your presence, visit, expertise, a favour or some form of assistance.

There are times we need to say ‘no’ to some people because they have selfish and ‘impossible’ expectations. Some folks are more concerned about their gains than your pains. But even when it is obvious that we can’t help in some situations, we still don’t want to say ‘no’ because we love to be loved and well-spoken of.

Well, it may be that you have a large heart, and you really want to help. But you simply don’t have the capacity to help everyone. You don’t have to take on more than you can handle just to get people’s approval. If you do, you’ll end up draining up yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually; and then, strain some important relationships.

Some are given the grace to handle more. More is expected of them. Others are given less and less is expected of them. Know the level of grace you are given and operate within the scope of that grace. You also need to know the kind and number of obligations you can cope with per time. I pray, May we receive the grace to know the appropriate time to say yes or no. In Jesus name!
