Are you running

“….let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,” (Hebrews 12:1, KJV)

Life as a journey takes us from one point to another. Things continue that way until we exit this world. However, for the Christian, life is more than a journey; it is more like a race. In fact the opening text of today tells us that there’s a race set before us. Technically, then, we are ‘athletes’.

Athletes don’t need weights. They need to be as unencumbered as possible to run effectively. Why? Weights don’t only weigh us down but also slow us down. With unnecessary weights, one might end up losing in the race. You surely don’t want to lose in life, do you?

Prayerlessness, unbelief, ‘Wordlessness’, carelessness, envy, selfishness, procrastination, ingratitude, stubbornness, hatred, unforgiving lifestyle, and so on, are weights. If we want to win we have to drop them!

More importantly, we need to tell God to show us our own specific ‘weights’ so as to develop our spiritual lives to the point of dropping them without going back to them. So don’t pamper your weights. Instead, simply dispose of them. I pray; may you not be your own hindrance. In Jesus name!
