Blessed are the meek

Blessed are the meek… for they shall inherit the earth! (Mathew 5:5, AMP).

There are people who believe that meekness means weakness. In fact the subject of meekness is so unwelcome to them that they claim to prefer the aggressive to the gentle. But the truth is, people naturally respond better to meekness than aggression.

Some doors open on their own accord to meekness which aggression tries in vain to open. Meekness begets respect while aggression breeds insolence. If there are more gentle people than ungentle ones; our society, neighbourhood, workplaces, and churches would have been better than what they are now.

I read a story: During World War I, British fighter pilots made the amazing discovery that thick layers of silk stopped low velocity shrapnel better than steel. So they wound the silk around their heads and then wore leather horse riding helmets on top of the silk. Scientists still aren’t sure just what it is that gives silk its strength, but it’s true that in certain situations soft, gentle, tender silk can prove far stronger than cold, hard steel.

Jesus said that meek people are the actual ‘…proud owners of everything that can’t be bought’ (Mathew 5:5, MSB). Think about that! I pray; may meekness, a component of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, find expression in our lives. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: Every internal rebellion to the word of God in my life, lose your hold. In the mighty name of Jesus!
