From weakness to strength

From weakness to strength

By faith these people overthrew kingdoms..Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight (Hebrews 11:33, NLT).

One of man’s problems is his self-dependence. And God often allows some obstacles and hindrances in his life to progressively make him realise how much he ought to depend on God. Have you noticed that God sometimes permits certain difficult circumstances in the lives of ‘intelligent’ and ‘knowledgeable’ folks? The main reason for this is to keep them dependent on Him (See II Corinthians 12:9).

Our achievements could make us think we are super heroes. But our weaknesses have a way of revealing our vulnerability and fragility. This is where our dependence on God becomes a serious issue. As ironical as it sounds, it appears like it is better to be in an unsettling situation which forces one to ‘need’ God than to be in a ‘pleasant’ situation that makes one complacent and treat God like ‘unneeded’. When a man constantly draws from the resources of God, he is taken from ordinariness to greatness.

From experience, we have seen that only very few of us will ‘need’ God if everything is going smoothly. But when you find yourself at the center of a big trouble, you cry out to Him in earnest desperation and absolute dependence. Then, He trains you, makes you strong and does beyond your expectations.

Look carefully into your life and be true to yourself. Is your present spiritual state reflecting dependence on God? If you know that your relationship with God is not how it should be, and yet, everything ‘seems’ to be working smoothly for you and around you, your situation calls for urgent concern. You can only go from weakness to strength when you constantly rely on God and put your faith in Him. I pray; may you never come to a point where you make God your last resort. In Jesus mighty name!
