Complaints

In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you (I Thessalonians 5:18, KJV).

I read about a cruel place: They were stripped naked, whipped, had no water, and were chained. Prisoners there either begged to be killed or took their own lives. What a dreaded place to be!

On a particular night, something strange happened there. Amidst their ‘pitiable’ condition, some two prisoners were singing while others were listening with utter disbelief. Welcome to one of those ancient Roman prisons, a hell on earth.

That was the place where in an atmosphere of pain and trauma, Paul and Silas were praising God. What gave them that kind of ‘guts’? The answer is; they knew their God. Everyone can sing happily when there is abundance. But how many can praise God in the midst of turmoil and affliction?

If you stop trusting God in the midst of an unpleasant situation, it only reveals the level of your faith. Some are so full of complaints that it has blurred their sense of appreciation and faith. They complain all the time. They blame everything and everyone for their situation. They question God’s commitment to them and ask Him why He is treating them the way He’s doing. We need to see our circumstances through the eyes of faith, not just with the natural eyes or mind.

It’s also noteworthy that Paul and Silas weren’t punished because they sinned against God. Yet they never blamed God. Today, many of us are afflicted because we neglected God’s instructions. Instead of repenting and asking for God’s mercy, we still blame God for our plight.

Paul and Silas were simply exemplary. Do you know what happened to them as they were singing that night? God’s presence came for their deliverance and they were set free. It’s my prayer that God’s presence shall fight your battle today as you praise Him and align yourself with Him. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: I receive the grace not to be a problem but a solution. In the mighty name of Jesus!
