Thanks
‘Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever’ (I Chronicle 16:34; NKJV).
It’s the last day of the month and of the year! Being alive today is by nothing but God’s grace. God has indeed been good to us and we shouldn’t take His goodness for granted. Many folks take their being alive for granted because their focus is on the negatives.
They feel they have no reason to be happy simply because they’ve not gotten something they desire. But take life away and the possibility of achieving any goal at all is totally gone! Now what do you say about people who got what you want but have lost their lives?
Why do we focus on one thing that is wrong while we take many other blessings that God has lavished on us for granted? Why is it so easy to be ungrateful for many blessings but quick to complain about a particular problem? This is a time to count our blessings, not a time to be bitter, hateful, ungrateful, sorrowful or downcast.
Take your attention away from the negatives and fix them on your blessings. The Lord has indeed blessed you. First, you have Jesus. Secondly, you are alive. God fed you, clothed you and gave you victory over all the challenges of the year.
Even if you think you didn’t fare too well in your spiritual walk with the Lord, you need to thank Him because you still have the opportunity to be fully committed to Him this next year. If you focus too much on yourself, you will be down and defeated. The biblical thing to do is to keep looking unto Jesus (Hebrews 12:14).
The word of God says we should give thanks in everything. Is there anything which doesn’t fall under everything? If things have been good; give thanks to God about them. And if things have not been so good, give thanks to God because your situation could have been worse.
God may not prevent some troubles, but He stays with you and takes you through the trouble so as to give you unprecedented victory and joy. Dear friend, you can’t afford not to end this year on a thanksgiving note. Give thanks to God. He has done great things!
