Give me holiness and I’m satisfied

Give me holiness and I’m satisfied

Psalms 42:1-2 “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?”

Here the psalmist gives us an illustration of a hart panting for water. After running in the tropical forest, in the dry deserts and no water. Eventually, it sights water, and he pants desperately for it.

A Christian who is on his way to heaven and is heavenly minded, brushes off everything and pursues hard after holiness. He looks at the things of this world with contempt, and ensues holiness. Holiness becomes his aspiration and ultimate goal. Until he possesses that gracious, heavenly holiness, he will not rest, nor be satisfied just like the hart.

However, today many who claim to be Christians have subdued the hunger for holiness. They are now after the world and it’s activities, reputation, business, fame, money, acquiring certificates, and fleshly pleasures. They’ve abandoned the most sublime, and greatest desire of every christian which is holiness for the contrary, why? They’ve degraded holiness to a level of neglected priority, and see it as being over religious which makes others who would have longed and sought for it remain content with their stagnant or degenerating spiritual life.

And because there’s no more hunger for ancient holiness, which is splendid and distinct from the world, Christianity has now become shallow and superficial. It is now a show business and eye-service. This is not how the early Christians, and true disciples of the Lord demonstrated theirs. Let’s repent!

A true born again Christian has no other most pressing desire after conversion, other than  sanctification and holiness. But now, because of the kind of Christianity we see today, when a convert talks about holiness, they try to disdain him and derail him from the right way.

Nonetheless, I’m thankful to God that in all these, true saints still follow after holiness. You can take the money, you can take the car, you can take the houses, you can take the certificates, you can take everything, but give them holiness and they are satisfied. These only are they who have their eyes fixed on getting to heaven, and are the true messengers, servants, and children of God.

That’s why John Wesley said, “Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin, and desire nothing but God, and I care not a straw whether they be clergymen or laymen; such alone will shake the gates of hell and set up the kingdom of heaven on Earth.”
