Mouth management

‘…out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks’ (Matt. 12:34, NIV).

Many things reveal the nature of man, but one major thing to look out for is his utterances. Most of the problems of life are as a result of wrong use of the tongue. One of the hardest jobs to do is to tame the tongue. But if we want to live peacefully, controlling our tongue cannot be compromised. Just like drivers use the steering to control the direction of their cars, so we ought to use our tongues to make our lives go in the right direction.

What if people don’t speak angry words, curse others or say negative things about others? What if spouses speak respectfully and kindly to each other? What if nobody tells lies to others? What if we speak words of gratitude instead of complaints? What if our words unite God’s children instead of divide them? What if we speak peaceful words instead of those that tear down? What if we speak encouraging words? What if our words draw others closer to the Lord? What if our words reflect God’s wisdom?

What if we don’t reveal the weakness of somebody who confides in us? What if we speak words of forgiveness instead of those of retaliation? What if we speak nicely of someone who speaks evil of us? What if we pray for others instead of gossip about them? What if we stop condemning our leaders and pray God’s wisdom upon them? What if we stop putting ourselves down by words? What if we learn to speak God’s words instead of Satan’s words? What if our words heal instead of inflict pain on others?

Everyone without exception will get the reward of how they use their tongues. Jesus said one will either be justified or condemned by his words (Matt. 12:37). Are you talkative? You must realize that no one talks too much without saying the wrong things. At this point, we need to submit our tongues to the Lord so that He can control them. If you utter a wrong thing mistakenly, you can quickly repent about it and ask for God’s forgiveness. I pray, may our tongues not be our undoing. In Jesus mighty name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: I command the power of sin upon my life to wither. In the mighty name of Jesus!
