Consecration to Holiness

Consecration to Holiness

2 Chronicles 29:5b “And who then is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the LORD.”

As you make up your mind to lead aholy life, there is a consecration to make to the LORD certifying that holiness unto the LORD will be your watchword. Now, I believe we know this. When a man and a woman is about to be joined together in holy wedlock, both of them make pledges to themselves, a life time consecration till death do them part.

Likewise, we are to make a standing, steadfast, committed consecration of holiness unto God. You come by faith before the alter of God and lay everything down. Set your heart on the possible attainment of scriptural holiness.

  • Remember Ruth’s consecration
  • Remember Esther’s commitment
  • Remember Hannah’s consecration
  • Remember Daniel’s consecration
  • Remember Job consecration
  • Remember Paul, and so on.

These were men of like passion as we are, but their total consecration and commitment to God was the evidence of their decision to attain scriptural holiness.

It then comes to us. The LORD is saying, whatever is the impediment that makes you always derail from attaining holiness, push it aside. It might be too much talking; it might be that some of your friends are the one hindering you; it may be that you’re always intoxicated by any thing; it may be that your inward nature has not been touched by the divine grace of sanctification; it may be a particular brother/sister that whenever you see him/her the thoughts in your mind moves your body to sin. Matthew 18:8-9 “Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee…”

Woe betide that thing that stands in my way to attain holiness! Decide today, and come before the LORD and say – is it my mouth? O LORD, set thou a watch over my lips. Is it my eyes? O LORD cover my eyes from beholding vanity that my heart might not be affected. Whatever it is, do it, and do it now.

More so, understand that as you do this, some people may misunderstand you and insinuate that you’re overdoing it. So may even say, why is he keeping quiet these days as if he’s dumb? Why doesn’t he interact as before? Why doesn’t he join us to do this thing as we’ve usually done? And then, they’ll come to you, and try to question your sobriety and consecration.

But you know your heart, and the commitment you’ve made God. Therefore, be bold to say to them, “God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me. My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.” Heart, life, yea everything to Jesus I surrender! It is no longer I that lives but Christ that lives in me. The laws of his word has been written afresh in my heart, and a standing consecration is between us.

Yes we can. At first it may not be easy but never mind, ignore the words of the people, and say, I have chosen to walk in this highway of holiness, and never will I roam anymore.
