Temporary Suffering

After you have suffered a little while he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation (I Peter 5:10, NLT).

Suffering is a state in which one has to endure some difficulty, misfortune, agony, pain or hardship. There are times when one must pass through the training ground of suffering. Even Jesus suffered hardship, cruelty and death before he could give us the gift of eternal life.

A boss today was once an apprentice. A trainer today was a learner yesterday. A pastor today was a lay person. A master today was once a servant. A landlord today was a tenant yesterday. Many rich people today were once wretched. In all these examples, the former stage represents when those individuals were suffering, while the latter stage shows that their suffering is over.

Suffering for a while produces joy later. It doesn’t matter how long the suffering lasts, it can still bring glory to God later. The disciples once asked this question about why a man was born blind: “Was it a result of his sins or those of his parents?” And Jesus answered them, it was not because of his sins or his parents sins. He was born blind so the power of God could be seen in him. And he was made whole that day (See John 9:1-7).

Are you suffering agony, pain, lack, hunger, sorrow, rejection, persecution, affliction, disappointment, hardship, hatred, ridicule, mockery, attack or persecution? Endure it. Learn from the experience. Learn to save from your income. Acquire a skill. Pursue your vision. Don’t forget that suffering is only for a season and a season doesn’t last forever. The Word of God says having suffered a little while; God will restore, support and strengthen you. So, be strong. God is in control. I see Him restoring you today. In Jesus mighty name!

Today’s corporate prayer: Tree of suffering, bearing fruits of affliction in my life, dry up to your roots! In the name of Jesus!
