When you are delayed

Jairus fell at His feet and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live (Mark 5:22, 23 NKJV).

As Jesus arrived from the country of the Gerasenes, a great crowd soon gathered about Him. Then a man called Jairus came, fell to his knees and desperately begged Him to urgently heal his daughter. Jesus followed him and the crowd thronged behind. Since she was at death’s door, any form of delay would be dangerous. So the man must be praying in his mind that her daughter’s life would be sustained till Jesus got there. Now every moment counted!

Suddenly, Jesus stopped. He asked an unusual question which surprised even His disciples. Jairus was getting impatient. He must have wondered why Jesus was asking an “irrelevant” question at such a critical moment of his need. Actually, something had happened. A lot of people must have been touching Jesus for different reasons. But there was this unusual touch. Jesus felt that power had left Him, hence, he stopped and asked: “Who touched me?”

A woman stepped out trembling, knelt before Him and told Him she touched Him. And Jesus said to her, “Daughter that was a great step of faith, and that has made you well…” This woman had had a hemorrhage for twelve years. Many doctors had treated her, but to no avail. They took all her money and left her worse than she was. She had heard about Jesus and came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. She already made up her mind that if she touched even His garments, she would be made well. And now she had been.

While all these were going on, Jairus had been forgotten (maybe by you too). Joy and jubilation filled the air. No one seemed to remember that their mission was actually to go to Jairus’ house. And while Jairus was wondering if the delay would claim his daughter’s life, news came that she had died! Instantly, the atmosphere of joy turned mournful. Jairus was upset. He wondered if he should be happy for that woman or to hold her responsible for his daughter’s death.

But Jesus spoke to him: “Do not be afraid, only believe”. Eventually Jesus brought the girl back to life because not even death dare stand in His way. Dear friend have you invited Jesus into your situation? Does it appear like Jesus likes attending to others while ignoring your own urgent need? Today, His word to you is, “Do not be afraid, only believe”. The Lord will remember you today. In Jesus mighty name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: I receive the grace for unshaken faith that eventually gets the answer. In the name of Jesus!
