6 Things God Hates

Proverbs 6:16-19, “These six things the Lord hates, indeed, seven are an abomination to Him 17:A proud look [the spirit that makes one overestimate himself and underestimate others], a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,18: A heart that manufactures wicked thoughts and plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, 19: A false witness who breathes out lies [even under oath], and he who sows discord among his brethren.

Some of us blatantly commit these sins without even realizing our wrong doings in the first place. For others, it’s just the norm to live in one or more than one of these sins that God specifically expressed His displeasure over.

  1.  Pride

Pride is one of those sins we are not mindful about, yet it’s the first kind of sin that God detests. Sometimes, we display pride in our dealings because we barely consider it as sin. It takes someone who is sensitive to know he has exhibited pride in his dealing(s).

I call pride a subtle sin because of our tendenies to disregard it as a sin. Although, it’s subtle yet it’s the deadliest. It has the capacity to distance one from God; to literally disgrace, demote and disqualify one from actually making heaven. Pride has in most cases succeeded as the devil’s weapon against believers where other sins you consider dreadful failed. Hence, it remains the devil’s most lethal weapon. So, be on the guard against pride.

     2.  Lying

Lies have the capacity to spoil things and destroy relationships; Especially, our relationship with God. God vehemently despises lies. The fact that it falls at the number two spot on the list of sins that God passionately frowns at will tell you the severity of it.

Have you ever considered the reason many believers (and non-believers) struggle daily with overcoming the habit of lying. It’s simply because the devil comes with the fallacy that ” it doesn’t matter, God will understand and forgive later”. He uses this to keep careless Christians at the same spiritual level for years. Thereby, breaking God’s heart in the process.

      3. Murder

Talking about the “hands that shed innocent blood” proverbs 6:17b; Outright murder in whatever form all make up the category of persons that God talks about here. From aborting a pregnancy, to ending someone’s life, because he had hurt you, etc, are all categorized as murder.

It’s important to know that the intent to murder starts from the heart. It means that God will not only judge those who commit this sin; He will also judge anyone who devises one in his heart even if he doesn’t execute it.

It will be noteworthy to state that, God forgives every sin even the sin of murder. However, God’s forgivess doesn’t erase the consequences of those sins. Except when God just decides to be merciful. That’s the wonderful thing about our God, He is beyond loving and merciful.

       4. Heart That Constantly Plots Evil

Proverbs 6:18a “An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations.” God hates a heart where wicked thoughts and plans flow out from ceaselessly. That’s the reason proverbs 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

        5.  Mischief Making

Proverbs 6:18b, “feet that be swift in running to mischief,”. The Amplified version of the Bible refers to mischief in this verse as “evil”. Always being quick to seek ways to hurt another, is considered evil by God. This is the fifth thing that God hates.

       6.  Bearing False Witness

Testifying against someone who is innocent of an offense is considered a false witness. I’ll also add that, when you blatantly swear to affirm the truth about something you know isn’t true, is part of it. This, God also hates very much.

The 7th Thing God Doesn’t Just But Considers Abominable

  ** Sow Discord Amongst People

In a layman’s term, this simply means to deliberately cause disagreements or quarrels between/amongst persons. This is the seventh thing that God hates. And God doesn’t just detests this kind of sin, He regards it as  an abomination. In other words, something that should never be done by anyone especially Christians.

Conclusively, if you go over this list carefully, you would realize you’re guilty of one or more. We all are or have been at some point. Nevertheless, the essence of this write-up is to help us realize it and make the necessary adjustments where we’re defaulting. God help you as you do the needful.
