Are You a Servant?

Are You a Servant?

After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet…(John 13:5, NKJV)

Service is not something the average man feels like rendering. Among adults, youths and children, you might have heard the question: ‘Am I your servant?’ Our attitude to service really needs to be reviewed. For example, if a service would blow the trumpet of our kindness and generosity, or if it would bring lots of accolades and recognition, it might not be difficult.

But what happens when it comes to Jesus’ kind of service? Here, the job might be dirty. You may not be noticed, appreciated, or given any credit. You may even be misunderstood and called names.

The truth is everyone loves to be served. We love to have people at our beck and call. Our self centered nature loves to order people around and have its way always. We want things to be done to our taste and desires. We want everyone to know that we are somebody that should be respected. So, we don’t want to do things that do not befit our ‘status’.

Some husbands believe that it is a taboo to help their wives in the kitchen, not even when she was sick! Some people cannot render any free service to anyone. Everything must involve huge money. Some people have lost spiritual direction in the process of looking for where they can be paid higher for their service in the house of God.

The Bible says in Philippians 2:7-11 (NIV): Jesus ‘… made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness…’ That’s true service – forgetting about ourselves or how big we are. May God help us to emulate this. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: Whatever is affecting my service to God and others; lose your power over me. In the mighty name of Jesus!
