A trainer of others
If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously…(Romans 12:8, NLT).
There are different types of trainers. There are those who always show you your wrongs, leaving you feeling awful about yourself. There are also those who would not only point out what you do wrong, but show you how to do it right. They always leave you feeling better about yourself.
Another class of trainers won’t even wait till you have done anything right or wrong. They just go ahead to motivate you, assure and reassure you that you can excel. They help you and give you all the support you need. The question is, ‘What type of trainer are you?’
Some trainers are only goal-oriented. They just want to achieve results. And because of their high expectations, they step on toes. And then they wonder why they don’t get their followers’ cooperation and submission. The answer is simple. As far as humans are concerned, there is no better way to get a positive response than care, simplicity and love.
It is not wrong to be goal-oriented, provided you are also people-oriented. In fact, your goals should be such that put their needs and growth into serious consideration. Being people-oriented will give you better performance, loyalty, admiration and respect among your trainees. It is when people know how much you care that they can care how much you know.
If a leader is always demanding for respect, it is because he has probably lost it. But when you learn to caringly and painstakingly take everyone along, you are a great leader indeed. So, in whatever capacity of leadership you operate, ask for grace to be a person of indelible impact.
