But Jesus…said to him, Go home to your own (family and relatives and friends) and bring back word to them of how much the Lord has done for you, and (how He has) had sympathy for you and mercy on you (Mark 5:19, AMP).

Jesus and His disciples just arrived the land of the Gerasenes. They were ‘welcomed’ by a man from the cemetery who was possessed by an evil spirit. No one could restrain him. No one had the strength to subdue him. Night and day he roamed through the graves and the hills, screaming out and slashing himself with sharp stones. When he saw Jesus; he screamed, shrieking, “What is there in common between us? Please do not torment me”.

Actually, there were thousands of demons living inside this man. They begged Jesus not to send them to some distant place but into a large herd of pigs feeding nearby and Jesus permitted them. Those two thousand pigs stampeded over a cliff into the sea and drowned. News traveled fast and everyone rushed out to see what happened. The mad man was now sitting there wearing decent clothes and in his right mind. Everyone was struck with awe.

As Jesus was about leaving, the healed man begged to go, too. But Jesus told him to go back to his own people and tell them how God had been merciful to him. He then went back and started preaching in the ‘Ten Towns’ area, telling everyone how much Jesus had done for him. He became the talk of the town. With His mission accomplished, Jesus went back to the other side of the lake from where he had come (See Mk. 5: 1 -21).

Here was a man who was a complete write-off. Family and friends would have wished he was dead due to the fact that he was an embarrassment. But God’s mercy found him. In fact, just to help him, Jesus went as far as leaving a large crowd and crossing to the other side of the sea! Even while crossing, a terrible storm arose that was going to sink their boat. But Jesus rebuked the wind and they made it to the man’s location. Not even a satanic storm would discourage him from helping a helpless soul (See Mk. 4:35-41).

Do you seem to be in a hopeless‘ situation? Have you resigned yourself to ‘fate’, like some people have? I want you to know that there is a Jesus who would leave a crowd and cross a deep sea just to locate an abandoned fellow. He didn’t care even if two thousand pigs had to perish for this man to be free. This Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb. 13:8). I pray wherever the circumstances of life have pushed you to, Jesus shall locate and help you today. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: O Lord, arise and do everything you have to do to change my story. In the mighty name of Jesus!
