Filthy lucre

Filthy lucre

‘…Some people, eager for money, have wondered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs’ (I Tim. 6:10, NIV).

Desiring money at all costs remains a source of evil. My father in the Lord once shared a story. Here it is in his words: “I used to have a very educated friend who wanted to get rich at all costs. Somehow, he met someone who came to his house and doubled an amount of money right in his presence. He became very happy and was told to bring all his savings, which they would double for him. He had roughly four hundred and fifty thousand naira and was ready to double it.

In spite of his wife’s protest against such a move, the man still followed the money doublers. When they saw the money, they told him that the process of doubling the money would start immediately. Just then, a policeman walked in and asked, “What are you people doing here?” Neither the man nor the men gave him any answer. The policeman further asked, “What is this money for?” One of them now had to ‘explain’ to him: “Well sir, we are money doublers. We want to double it for him.” The policeman faced my friend and said, “You this man, you came here to double money, as educated as you are. You are in trouble.”

The man prostrated and said, “Please forgive me. I am sorry.” The policeman said, “No, you will go to the police station.” The police man now asked him, “What school did you say you attended?” The man told him and the policeman said, “You are a disgrace to that school.” As the man was crying, The policeman said, “Just get yourself away from this place and he ran out.” Unfortunately, that was the end of his money. He realized later that the policeman was a fake one and also one of them.

Today, people do illegal and ungodly things to get money. In a bid to get money, some husbands have ‘used’ their spouses. Some married women have slept with strange men to get money to buy a car or travel abroad. Many young men have gone into drug trafficking or dubious businesses for money. Some ladies have resorted to prostitution for money. Beloved, any money made in a sinful way is a curse, not a blessing. Retreat from any dangerous and sinful journey which can destroy your life. Be creative and diligent. Trust God to meet your needs and He will. May we receive the grace of Godly contentment. In Jesus name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: Father, deliver me from ungodly impatience designed by the devil to destroy my life. In Christ Jesus mighty name!
