Forgiving offenders

Forgiving offenders

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you (Ephesians 4:32, NKJV).

If God’s word says we should forgive one another, it means there should be a number of things to pardon. If you are to fix your mind on what some fellows did to you, your spiritual walk with God will be hindered. Did somebody lie against you? Forgive anyway. Did your spouse betray you? Forgive anyway. Did a colleague slander you? Still forgive. Were you slighted or embarrassed? Pardon the offender. Did a friend offend you? Let go and let God have His way.

If spouses learn to forgive each other, there will be less cases of physical abuses or divorce in the society today. If siblings learn to forgive each other, there will be peaceful families everywhere. Unforgivingness divides but forgiveness unites. Unforgivingness is self-centred but forgiveness is selfless and doesn’t insist on its rights. Unforgivingness wants to get even and promotes carnality above spirituality. Unforgivingness says “I can’t take that. But as Christians we should dominate our feelings by the help of the Holy Spirit.

Do you want God to forgive your own sins too? Don’t you want your faith to be unhindered? Do you want to enjoy divine health and healing? Do you want to have a peaceful life? Then forgiveness is not an option. Forgiveness does not mean you are a fool; and it is not a weakness but a virtue. Forgiveness is to set yourself free from a stumbling block of the enemy. Forgiveness doesn’t even mean that God may not do justice to the situation in question. But only God should be allowed to do it because your own justice would be unjust and wrong.

If God forgives us our innumerable sins, we ought to learn to forgive others too. Receiving God’s forgiveness depends on forgiving others. May God help us to let go of offences. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: Father Lord, help me to let go of offences and embrace the fruit of peace. In the name of Jesus!
