Hungry breeds

Hungry breeds

Blessed are those who hunger…for righteousness, for they shall be filled (Mathew 5:6, NKJV).

Feeding supplies us energy, keeps us healthy and sustains our lives. All of us must feed appropriately to stay at our best. So, God has given us something called hunger; which is a craving for food anytime our strength and energy are depleted. Hungering for physical food is quite automatic (or involuntary) but not so with spiritual hunger. More often than not, hunger for more of God is self-induced. Until we hunger for God’s righteousness; spiritual starvation is inevitable.

People feed their minds with lots of junks, which creates a false satisfaction which results in spiritual malnourishment. Unless we develop hunger for real food, we will grow weak and lose spiritual stamina. If it was possible to open up our hearts and see the contents, we might discover that job, business, career, earthly pursuits, addiction to phone, materialism, vain glory, love of recognition, self gratification, worldly cares and so on, have taken over the place that’s supposed to be the temple of the Holy Spirit. That’s why it has been increasingly difficult for a lot of people to (re)connect to God.

We are asked to seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness so that everything we need will be added to us. When we plan our day do we give room for things that can keep us strong spiritually? Do we give quality time to studying and meditation on God’s word? Do you pray daily to draw strength from Him? What about the people you hang out with? Are they those that have interest in the fear of God or those that care more about worldliness and take you farther from God?

The word of God is not meant to be a snack. It’s meant to be a meal. Snacks naturally cannot take you too far, only healthy meals will. Snacks are fast to make and appealing to our taste, but they are not good for our health. Quality meals, on the other hand, take longer time to make. Mothers who know the importance of good meals usually go the extra mile to make them available to their families. We need similar efforts to grow spiritually. So, ‘rearrange’ yourself to spend quality time with God always.

Today’s corporate prayer: O Lord, help me to stand against anything or anyone that takes me away from you. In the name of Jesus!
