Scoffers club

Scoffers club

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof’ (Proverbs 18:21, KJV).

Each time we talk to others or talk about them, we either use our tongues constructively or destructively. When we submit our hearts and tongues to the Holy Spirit to work on, we will soon discover that we have much better things to do than speaking evil of others.

When you paint someone black, you are leaving a bad impression, not only about the person but also about yourself. Ultimately, it’s a sin against God. The Bible says ‘Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers’ (Psa. 1:1). By scoffers, the Bible means people who treat others with contempt, derision and scorn.

Even in religious circles, many people are guilty when it comes to ‘what we say about others’. No matter how highly placed he is, the religion of anyone who misuses his tongue is in vain. The Bible says in James 1 :26: If you claim to be religious but don’t control your tongue, you are just fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.

It is better to be alone than to be in the company of scoffers. It is better to mind your business than to listen to counselors of wickedness. It is better to say nothing than to say the wrong thing. What you say is saying something about you. Our text today says you will eat the fruit of the use of your tongue. So, make sure you plant the right seeds with your words. I pray, may we not sow with our mouths words that will produce bitter fruits in our future. In Jesus mighty name!

Today’s corporate prayer: O Lord, keep my tongue from speaking ill of anyone. Instead, help me to say all the good things I know about others. In Jesus mighty name!
