Pleasers of men
‘Servants, obey in all things your masters…; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: (Colossians 3:22, KJV).
Menpleasers, from the context of today’s opening text, are those who don’t do the right things or carry out their duties well unless when under close supervision, or the eye of their superior.
Some folks don’t show any seriousness or concentrate in the service unless their pastors are around. Some workers work with ‘zeal’ only when their employers are nearby. Some of us follow instructions only when there is a strong penalty attached to non-compliance. Some folks resort to flattery just to appear like loyal servants to their bosses.
In whatever guise, God is not a party to any form of eyeservice. It is absolutely unacceptable to Him. Whether in secular or ministry responsibilities; and if supervised or not, our best is expected all the time.
Embrace obedience and diligence. You won’t even have to fear being monitored. So, God’s word for us today is, commit yourself to your divine assignment. I pray; may we find joy in our works and the assignments we have been called to do; so that we can put in our best into it. In Jesus name!
Today’s corporate prayer: O Lord; deliver your sons are daughters from every form of slothfulness and pretence. In Jesus mighty name!
