Withdrawing from evil

Withdrawing from evil

Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil (Proverbs 3:7, RSV).

Stop! That’s what God is telling some of us today, “Do not be wise in your own wisdom”. Many of us want to go on with our personal plans even when we know that that is different from what God wants us to do. More often than not we learn the hard way. Simple obedience could have taken care of some of the negative situations we are in now. Following our own wisdom and thinking could be frustrating. It is evil and we have to turn away from it.

It is lack of the fear of the Lord to trust our judgment above divine instructions. Many times we lose our peace and become vulnerable to the devil when we walk by sight instead of faith. It might even lead to sleepless nights and health issues. But when we learn to surrender to Him, the Word of God says: “It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones” Prov. 3:8. When we follow ungodly counsels or our own disobedient thought, it is an invitation to trouble and unrest.

There are some individuals who have made evil their way of life. It has become like daily food to them. They don’t seem to feel good until they have hurt someone. The word of God warns us: “Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil men. Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on (Prov. 4:14, 15, RSV).

God loves everyone but He is against evil. He said: “…I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live…” Ezk. 33:11. “The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they don’t know over what they stumble.” The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him, and he is caught in the toils of his sin. He dies for lack of discipline, and because of his great folly he is lost (Prov. 4:19, 5:22, 23, RSV).

Friend God’s word is clear about all forms of wickedness. May we not be caught in this evil web. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: O Lord, flush out of me every trace of wickedness. In the name of Jesus!
