Choices: How the Holy Spirit Empowers One to Make Wise Choices

Making right choices in life is true wisdom. If only we had the ability to make wise choices everytime without errors, life would be much more better.

Deuteronomy 30:15-16 says, “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.”

God has given everyone of us the power of free will. Free will to make our own decisions and choices. The choice(s) you make at any point is your sole responsibility. Our choices will either make or mar us, this means we ought to be extremely cautious and responsibile about the kind of choices we make in life. An idiom says, “as you make your bed, so you must lie on it.” This points to the fact that you will have yourself only to blame if you make poor choices.

Genesis 13:11, “So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other.”

God expects us to be very wise in all of our decisions and choices in life. The average human mind makes poor choices very often which is an indication that reason, critical thinking and the weighing of pros and cons will never be enough when it comes to making sound/wise choices.

How the Holy Spirit Empowers One to Make Wise Choices

The Holy Spirit plays a very huge role in helping us with making wise decisions/choices when we solicit his assistance. Even the smartest person can always make mistakes when it comes to making choices especially in some critical matters in life. This means, we can’t always trust our choices to be very sound without the help of the Holy Spirit. The difference between us and the Holy Spirit is the fact that he is God and knows what the outcome of every decision or choice we want to make or have made will be. So who would you rather trust for a better judgment and assistance on your choices in life, your instincts or the assistance of the Holy Spirit?

Some of the Poor Choices We Make Sometimes:

  • We choose death when we can have LIFE.
  • We choose captivity when we can have FREEDOM.
  • We choose complicated when we can have SIMPLE.
  • We choose worries when we can have PEACE.
  • We choose enmity when we can have FRIENDSHIP.
  • We choose bitterness when we can have LOVE
  • We choose sadness when we can have JOY.
  • We choose the devil when we can have GOD.
  • We choose hell when we can have HEAVEN

Mathew 7: 13-14, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Proverbs 14:12 , “There’s a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”

In sum, God is a wise being, He also desires His children to be wise too . He wants us to make wise choices regarding every issue in life beginning from the ones we consider “not so important” to the ones we consider, “very important”. Some of our choices can ruin a lot of things, so be wise, responsible and spiritual about them.
