Compelled to Intervene

Compelled to Intervene

I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth (Luke 11:8; KJV).

Receiving a favour or help from someone might not necessarily be as a result of friendship or familiarity alone. Sometimes, importunity (a constant and persistent demanding) can force a closed door open, which relationship or friendship alone may not open.

Let me paraphrase the scenario Jesus painted in Luke 11:5-7. “If a friend comes to you at midnight and say to you, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine just arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to offer him’. Will you say: ‘Don’t bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I can’t get up and give you anything’?”He provided the answer to his own question, which is the opening text of today (See Luke 11:8; KJV).

Three facts are evident from this illustration. One, the man told himself; ‘I must offer something to my guest’. Two, he believed the friend he went to meet had what he wanted. Three, he decided he would persist until his friend would get up and attend to his urgent need.

Being God’s children is quite significant. But we won’t get some things just because we are His children. We need to take the same steps that man took. Jesus created the impression that the frequency and doggedness with which we ‘disturb’ God with our prayers determines if we get what we want or not. So what are you ready to disturb God about at this period? Arise and give him no rest until He gives you His response. I pray; may we not come to Him without believing and persisting until He answers us. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: I receive dogged faith to hold on to God till He grants my most pressing request. In the mighty name of Jesus!
