Full Recovery

And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him… but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God (1 Samuel 30:6, KJV).

David and his men had just arrived home from a journey only to find out that some enemies had made a raid and carried off their women and children. It was so saddening that David and his men wept until they had no strength to weep anymore. That was what led to the state of commotion and confusion in which David was found in our opening text above.

The men were very bitter about the loss of their wives and children, and they began to talk of stoning David. But David encouraged himself in the Lord. And what did he do? He sought the face of God so as to know the way out of their present calamity. The Lord showed him what to do and he encouraged his subjects to support him. When you have found strength in the Lord yourself, its easy to transfer that courage into others.

However, one-third of the men stopped halfway due to exhaustion. But the rest took charge for them. Those who continued later found a dying Egyptian man. They were spiritually sensitive enough not to ignore him in his helpless state. They took care of him and it wasn’t long before his strength returned! (v.12). He was the one who gave them all the information they needed to recover all the loss. And as God would have it, they recovered their wives and children.
