God’s Ransom

God’s Ransom

There is but a step between me and death (I Samuel 20:3, KJV).

Some years back, I had a neighbour and friend. I occasionally prayed with him and we shared God’s word together. He worked as one of the security team attached to a company. On a particular night, he was supposed to be at work because he was on a night shift. But strangely, deep within him, he felt he should not go to work that night. Unusually, too, he obeyed that prompting.

When he got to work the next day, it dawned on him why God prevented him from going. A gang of armed robbers had attacked the company and left the security personnel on duty dead! He knew he would have been dead if he was there too. Friend, there are times we come very close to death but God saves us by what looks like simple decisions (which most times we make against our own desires!).

There are many evils that God averts in our lives. Different circumstances of life that could claim our lives are arrested by God. Many times we don’t even get to know about them. Perhaps in the times past, you had very rough experiences that drained your finances or grounded you. They probably were God’s way of averting certain death which was to come your way.

Meanwhile, you could be very angry with God or someone about them because you didn’t realize that it was God’s kindness strategy to keep you alive. Of a truth, it is by God’s mercy that we were not consumed. But to continue to enjoy this mercy, we must continually align ourselves with Him, and be sensitive enough to obey His promptings. Not fellowshipping with God effectively can make one insensitive to His leading; and this can cause a disaster. I pray, God’s hands shall visit anything hindering our deep fellowship with Him. In Jesus powerful name!

Today’s corporate prayer: I stand against all carefully-planned tragedies for me and my family. In the name of Jesus!
