Only the Way of the Cross Leads Home

Matthew 10:38 – And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

Jesus Christ the Saviour of the world who came to save lost humanity declared that the way to life eternal is not easy. He said, STRIVE TO ENTER IN.

And Jesus Christ is the economist of words. He never used any redundant word, neither said anything that he shouldn’t have said. How come today that many think that Christianity is easy? No is not!

It is only for those who set apart, and consecrate themselves to the call of the Christian service.

Serving Jesus requires high self denial, and daily cross bearing. Should this be of surprise to you that many who claim to be Christians today do not have any cross they are carrying? No self denial, no persecutions, no trial; they just carry empty profession, and paying lip service without deep commitment to the Lord.

The prophets of old suffered for the messages they preached, and yet stood their ground: not accepting deliverance on sinful conditions that they might obtain a better resurrection. The Apostles of Christ and the saints of God had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: they were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, and tormented.

Shouod we suffer less? No not at all. For all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

O reader, let us try our ways.
What cross are we bearing for Christ? What have we denied ourselves of for the sake of the Lord? What painful sacrifice have we given to the Lord regardless of the consequences?

If we do not have any of the above, I dare tell you, our profession may be loud here on earth, but not significant and recognized in heaven, and therefore will be consumed by the fire on the final day.

Being a soldier for Christ is not an easy work. The world will hate you, false brethren in the household of faith who do not want to hear about the narrow way will kick against you, family members will be out against you, and friends may forsake you; but these do show forth that you are not of the world as Christ was not of the world.
Jesus said, If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world will love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hate you.

May God help us to check where we stand, and be able to know if truly we are soldiers of the Cross, or counterfeit saints.
