Set them free

Sometime in August last year (2019) a young man entered my room and stole my phone. I wasn’t in the room at the time, I went behind the house to perform some chores. I was surprised when I came back because I couldn’t find my phone. Later, the thief was caught by the local security operatives.

Furthermore, he was handed to the police where he spent a couple of days before he finally charged to the court. During the court hearing, it was discovered that the same young man has been a serial offender. Evidences in the course of the investigation proved that he had been charged with different crimes several times. So, once again, he was sentenced to another jail term.

The entire process was traumatic for me because somehow, I felt guilty for being the reason he went back to jailed again. I was the reason he was going through a lot. The truth is, I probably committed more grievous sins when I didn’t know Jesus. Thus, I asked myself, did Jesus punish me like this for all the sins I’ve committed? Of course not! This made me very uneasy for having done this to someone.

So, earlier this year I went to the court to withdraw the case. I still can’t forget the number of times this young man told me “thank you”. I saw joy all over his face as he continued saying “thank you.” I gave him a tract so he would get to know Jesus and perhaps experience the new birth. It was a very emotional meeting, I was practically at the verge of tears, however, I tried my best to hold back the tears.

After I dropped the charges against him and he was finally released, I felt this overwhelming joy in my heart. Now, I can boldly go to God and say forgive me my trespasses even as I have forgiven those that trespassed against me.”

Hence, my question for you is this, “when are you going to set them loose?”, you may say, but I haven’t imprisoned anyone”, what about the prison in your heart? Don’t you have people you’ve caged in your heart? When are you going to forgive them?

I know they offended you but remember you offended God too and you possibly still offend him. Release them today, they’ve stayed there for too long, Please SET THEM FREE. Don’t forget that in order to be forgiven of your sins, you need to forgive others.
