Stand fast

Stand fast

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong (I Corinthians 16:13, NKJV).

The Bible encourages us to stand fast in the faith. The faith here means faith in the word of God, that our victory over the world’s ups and downs has been settled. Mind you, the devil is after everyone, with a special focus on anyone serving the Lord and those representing an obstacle to his wicked agenda. To be safe from his wickedness, therefore, we are encouraged to put on the whole armour of God and then stand. We read in the Bible: “Use every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy in the time of evil, so that after the battle you will still be standing firm” (Eph. 6:13, NLT).

The Bible in the above verse said that there is a time of evil; a hard and difficult time. We are counseled to use every piece of God’s armor to face all sorts of times. That’s the only way one will be standing after every battle. Definitely every battle will come and go. But the question is; will it leave you standing or fallen? Or will it leave you stronger or defeated?

The devil will do his best to make you doubt your beliefs and believe your doubts. In fact, he doesn’t mind going as far as using well-meaning people to pull you out of faith. Meanwhile “in the faith” is the only place where we can stand fast (I Cor. 16:13). Another thing is that this faith has to be personal. You cannot depend on a pastor or some form of ‘prayer contractors’ to get the victory you need. You will have to be involved in prayers; make up your mind to develop your own faith and be ready to stand fast in the faith, by the Spirit’s strength.

What is the whole armor of God? They are truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, the sword of the spirit which is the Word of God and above all, prayers. The devil will use trying situations and tempting circumstances to make you quit your faith in God. But you’ll have to make up your mind to stand firmly against him by developing your faith in God’s word and giving yourself to prayers. Receive divine grace to do so. In Jesus mighty name!

Today’s corporate prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to stand fast and fall no more. In the name of Jesus!
